Scattered pieces of a timber trackway running NNE-SSW have been found during peat cutting in the field centred on ST43663947. Four minor excavations were carried out in 1974. Holed planks, laid brushwood bundles and hurdling were found at cST43573945, cST43583946 and at cST43583944 respectively, but all were in considerable disarray and not pegged down There have also been numerous stray finds of wood in the peat cuttings, including concentrations at cST43603950 and cST43643955. A piece of willow, possibly a peg, may be a continuation of northwards of this structure Pollen analysis suggests that the timber was placed on particularly soggy ground, probably traversing the "lagg" between the slopes of the Polden Hills and the lower slopes of the raised bog. The trackway may be a projection S of the Meare Heath Track or, more likely, the Shapwick Heath Track. {1} 

The junction of this trackway and the Meare Heath trackway is scheduled as SM27986. {15} 

Two late Bronze age flints and some sherds of late Bronze age pottery have also been found near the trackway. {16}
